Our Story

Cozy Corner Cafe began as a shared dream between two long-time friends, Amelia Hayes and Samuel Chen, both native Portlanders with a deep love for their city and a shared passion for creating spaces where people can connect and feel at home. Inspired by their travels through Europe, where they encountered countless small, intimate cafes serving as the lifeblood of their respective communities, Amelia and Samuel envisioned bringing that same sense of warmth and connection to their beloved Portland. They wanted to create a haven, a place where friends could meet, families could relax, and individuals could find a moment of tranquility amidst the vibrant energy of the city.

In 2018, that dream materialized into reality. After months of searching, Amelia and Samuel found the perfect location in the heart of the Hawthorne District, a neighborhood known for its artistic spirit, its strong community ties, and its eclectic mix of shops and restaurants. The space, though small, had character – high ceilings, large windows that let in plenty of natural light, and a cozy corner that seemed to whisper stories of the past. They meticulously renovated the space, transforming it into the inviting and comfortable cafe that Cozy Corner is today. Plush seating, warm lighting, local art adorning the walls – every detail was carefully chosen to create an atmosphere that feels like a warm embrace.

From the very beginning, Amelia and Samuel were committed to sourcing the highest quality ingredients and supporting local businesses. They partnered with a small-batch coffee roaster just a few miles away, ensuring that every cup of coffee served at Cozy Corner is rich, flavorful, and ethically sourced. Their pastries are baked fresh daily in-house, using traditional recipes and the finest butter. They also offer a curated selection of savory sandwiches and salads, featuring locally sourced produce and artisan breads. But Cozy Corner is more than just great food and drinks; it’s about creating a welcoming and inclusive community.

Over the years, Cozy Corner Cafe has become a beloved gathering place for the Hawthorne community and beyond. It's a place where friendships are forged, ideas are exchanged, and memories are made. Amelia and Samuel are deeply grateful for the support they've received and remain committed to providing a warm and welcoming space for everyone who walks through their doors. They regularly host community events, from open mic nights to art exhibitions, further solidifying Cozy Corner's role as a vital part of the Hawthorne neighborhood.
